Compilation of GIS Datasets for Afghanistan, Afghanistan
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is actively seeking candidates for the Compilation of GIS datasets for the Afghanistan project. Afghanistan faces multiple challenges, with climate, peace, and development issues tightly interwoven. Given its diverse geography, economy, and people, understanding subnational and local conditions is crucial. The Policy and Knowledge Management Unit (PKU) compiles available datasets for layered visualization of local conditions. As part of this project, you will research and document geo-referenced datasets for Afghanistan, prepare datasets for PKU use, and create visualizations such as maps and charts. This work will provide practical skills in GIS, an understanding of the nexus approach, and insights into Afghanistan and broader Central Asia.

Education & Qualifications Requirements:
- Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Computer Science or a related field with a strong interest in data science, GIS, and analytics.
- Applied knowledge of GIS and programming for data is desirable.
- Experience with GIS packages such as QGIS, and ArcGIS, and using GIS data in Python, R, or similar is advantageous.
Work Experiences:
- Research and document available geo-referenced datasets for Afghanistan.
- Prepare datasets for use by the Policy and Knowledge Management Unit.
- Produce several visualizations (maps, charts, combined visualizations) using the integrated dataset.
