The International Youth Council (IYC), with its special consultative status at the UN ECOSOC, and the University of Wolverhampton in the UK, with its dedication to research and innovative programmes, are organising the IYC Climate Summit 2024, aligning with their shared commitment to promoting youth engagement, leadership, and sustainable development.
The IYC Climate Summit 2024 will take place in Wolverhampton, UK, from the 23rd to the 25th of July 2024, and will serve as a dynamic and inclusive platform, fostering open dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of unique perspectives and solutions across a broad spectrum of participants.
The IYC Climate Summit 2024 is designed to inspire and empower young leaders by equipping them with the requisite knowledge, skills, and networks to drive transformative change in their communities and shape a sustainable and equitable future. The summit objectives include raising awareness, encouraging collaboration, inspiring youth to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and advocating for youth participation at local, national, and international levels.
The Summit will centre on the overarching theme of “Active Youth Empowerment for a Future of Resilience and Sustainability.” The summit will delve into three core sub-themes: climate change and climate finance mechanisms, the circular economy model, and fostering green entrepreneurship initiatives.
Objective
The summit aims to raise awareness about climate change, encourage collaboration among young people, inspire them to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and advocate for increased youth participation in tackling climate challenges.
The IYC Climate Summit Themes
The Summit will centre on the overarching theme of “Active Youth Empowerment for a Future of Resilience and Sustainability.” The summit will delve into three core sub-themes: climate change and climate finance mechanisms, the circular economy model, and fostering green entrepreneurship initiatives.
Day 1: Climate Change and Climate Finance: Day 1 will delve into the crucial topics of climate change and climate finance. Panel discussions will explore global finance trends and the role of technology, while interactive workshops will focus on sustainable finance models and building resilience through climate finance for developing countries. The evening session promises a rich cultural exchange experience.
Day 2: Circular Economy: The focus will be on the circular economy, which aims to minimise waste and maximise resource efficiency. Keynote speeches, panel discussions, and workshops will cover topics such as circular economy principles and strategies, innovation and technology in the circular economy, circular business models, and policy and regulatory frameworks.
Day 3: Green Entrepreneurs: The final day of the summit is dedicated to green entrepreneurs. Workshops will focus on developing skills and education for green entrepreneurs, emphasising the significance of innovation, skills, and education in fostering sustainable businesses. The day concludes with a panel discussion on the role of youth in climate change and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Selection Criteria
The summit is open to young leaders, youth activists and advocates, youth policy advocates, social entrepreneurs aged between 18 – 36 years, academics and educators, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), development partners, private sector institutes, and anyone interested in climate action and youth empowerment.
