Summary:

The assignment titled “Programme Officer” is based in Zimbabwe. The expected start date is May 1, 2024. It aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced inequalities. The host entity is UNICEF, and the assignment is onsite, located in Harare. The duration is set for 12 months, with a possibility of extension. It aims to support the UNV Youth Advocate, supervised by the Chief of Child Protection Section, in contributing to UNICEF Zimbabwe’s Child Rights Advocacy work with a focus on disability-inclusive programming.

The assignment entails various responsibilities, including advocating for increased public financing for accessible and inclusive social services for children, recognizing initiatives in technology and innovation for inclusivity, promoting youth perspectives in climate change mitigation and green energy, advocating for the inclusion of children with disabilities and marginalized communities in evidence generation, identifying research opportunities for young people on inclusion, participating in forums and conferences for child rights advocacy, and contributing to the formulation of strategies for the inclusion of all young people in economic empowerment and job opportunities initiatives. The assignment emphasizes the active participation and role modeling of young people, including those with disabilities, to advance child rights advocacy and inclusivity in Zimbabwe.

Location:

Harare, Zimbabwe

Requirements:

  • Candidate must be a national or legal resident of Zimbabwe.
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in Social sciences, a first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience will be an added advantage.
  • 1 years of experience in or a demonstrated interest in the needs of children and young people including those with disabilities, children, and young people from marginalised groups and communities.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge in Shona and Sindebele is desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Adding voices of young people in advocating for increased public financing for free access to inclusive social services for children –health, rehabilitation, education, sexual and reproductive health, children and adolescent nutrition, child protection and WASH as per UNICEF DIPAS.
  • Advocacy work in recognising the initiatives of children and young people in technology and innovation space to advance inclusivity.
  • Bring in youth perspectives in inclusive climate change mitigation, going green and acceleration of use of green energy.
  • Advocacy work on inclusion of all children – Children with disabilities and children from minority groups and marginalized communities including children deprived of liberty in evidence generation.
  • Identify opportunities for development of research agenda and lessons learned documentation by young people on inclusion.
  • Advocacy for child rights by participating in relevant forums, conferences and trainings.
  • Contribute towards formulation of strategies for inclusion of all young people including those with disabilities in economic empowerment and job opportunities initiatives.
