Summary

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is seeking a curious and detail-oriented student to join their Aviation Department as a Summer Intern for the Newark Airport Structural Integrity program. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the critical task of maintaining the structural integrity of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program (program completion expected by Fall 2024).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on technical solutions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for clear reporting and collaboration.
  • A keen eye for detail and a high level of accuracy in data collection and analysis.
  • Interest in civil engineering, structural engineering, or related fields (a plus).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Familiarity with engineering software or drafting tools (e.g., AutoCAD) is desired (but not mandatory).

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers with inspections, data collection, and analysis of Newark Airport’s structural elements.
  • Research and learn about relevant building codes and safety standards for airport infrastructure.
  • Participate in the creation and review of technical reports and documentation (as appropriate for your skill level).
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of preventative maintenance plans for airport structures.
  • Assist with the development or use of digital tools for data visualization and structural assessments (may vary).
