Summary:

The Lyra McKee Bursary Scheme 2024 is a tribute to the brave and talented Northern Irish investigative journalist Lyra McKee, who was killed by militant republicans in Derry in April 2019. The scheme aims to train and mentor aspiring journalists or those who are just starting their journalism career, especially those from marginalized backgrounds. The scheme is inspired by Lyra’s perseverance to pursue investigative journalism despite personal challenges, such as disability, caregiving, and class bias.

Application Requirements:

  • Applicants must be from underrepresented backgrounds, such as people from low-income families, people of color, people with disabilities, Travellers, and anyone who cannot afford the #CIJSummer training.
  • They should be residents of the UK or the Republic of Ireland and at least 18 years old.
